Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, John Legend & More Slam Donald Trump’s Immigration Ban

The Queen of Pop was reportedly approached to rerecord a disco hit protesting the President

On January 27, President Donald Trump signed an executive order that banned citizens from several Muslim-majority countries — Iraq, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen — from entering the United States for 90 days, whether they are immigrating or even just visiting, regardless of whether they even have dual citizenship. Refugees were banned from entering the country for 120 days, while refugees from Syria, indefinitely.

This order prompted several musicians to speak out, if not take action on social media. Miley Cyrus and Camila Cabello called the #MuslimBan for being un-American. Rihanna went there and called the President “an immoral pig.” John Legend went off-script at the Producers Guild Awards to “specifically tonight reject his vision and affirm that America has to be better than that.”

Meanwhile, Sia and Grimes offered to match donations to organizations who are fighting the immigration ban: the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the Council of American-Islamic Relations, respectively. Grimes already reached her goal of $10,000.

Last night (January 28), a Brooklyn federal judge issued an emergency stay protecting deportation refugees, visa holders and those in transit against Trump’s order. This was brought on by a lawsuit filed by ACLU, arguing that Trump’s actions violates a 1965 law that bans discrimination in immigration based on national origin. Unfortunately custom agents are reportedly ignoring the judge’s demand.
