The Good, The Bad & The Robbery Of Beyonce
We round up the best and worst moments of the 59th Grammy Awards.

Solange Knowles has joined the chorus of voices questioning the Recording Academy’s perceived racial bias in the wake of the 59th Grammy Awards. It’s not exactly a new concern (see Frank Ocean’s insightful think piece), but the issue came squarely into focus when Adele’s exceedingly polite 25 beat Beyonce’s groundbreaking Lemonade for Album of the Year. The Brit looked embarrassed to win and spent most of her speech praising Queen Bey. Which is nice and all, but doesn’t really address the fact that there have only been three black winners in the category since the turn of the century.

The odds of a black woman winning are even lower. It has only happened three times (Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill, Whitney Houston’s Bodyguard Soundtrack and Natalie Cole’s Unforgettable… With Love) — the last being way back in 1999. Those statistics weren’t lost on Solange. “There have only been two black winners in the last twenty years for album of the year,” she wrote in a subsequently-deleted tweet. (There have actually been four, but her point is still valid). “There have been over 200 black artist who have performed.” See her tweet below and join the conversation in the comments.

#SolangeKnowles has a few words she would like to get off of her chest! 👀 #PostAndDelete #Oop
