Mariah Carey Redeems Herself With Killer “I Don’t” Performance
She did it. Mariah Carey redeemed herself for that NYE debacle with a killer live performance of “I Don’t.” The Elusive Chanteuse belted out the break-up anthem (it’s basically one, long fuck-you to ex-fiance James Packer) on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night (February 15) and got through it without a hitch. Mimi looked resplendent in a red gown and delivered an accomplished vocal without ever really pulling the trigger. The 46-year-old looked nervous, but that’s completely understandable given the circumstances.
It will be interesting to see how well “I Don’t” performs on the charts. Mariah is clearly dedicated to promoting the song (she’s not exactly a regular on live TV) and it has been positively received by fans and critics. The real test will by radio. Mimi and YG’s sassy anthem goes for rhythmic adds next week, so fingers crossed programmers forgo that ageist shit and give it a spin. Regardless of what happens, things are looking up for the pop icon’s 15th LP. Now if only she could get messy social media game in order!
