Hailee Steinfeld teams up with the Grey brothers & Zedd for new hit "Starving."

After establishing a reputation as go-to remixers with killer overhauls of Jack Ü and Justin Bieber’s “Where Are Ü Now” and Selena Gomez’s “Same Old Love,” Grey landed a pop hit of their own in 2016 with “Starving.” A collaboration with mentor/DJ extraordinaire Zedd and rising diva Hailee Steinfeld, the melodic banger went top 10 in Australia, Canada and the UK. It also peaked at number 12 at home and was certified platinum. Not bad considering they got their big break by sending an email.

The Trewartha brothers returned in early 2017 with a new single called “I Miss You.” Featuring girl group Bahari, the track is another radio-ready earworm with serious chart appeal. I recently asked the duo about their new offering and they kindly explained how it came together. Kyle and Michael also revealed that there’s an EP on the way and looked back on their biggest hit. They also opened up about the debt they owe Skrillex for helping them get started. Find out more about the budding hitmakers below.

What are the pros and cons of making music with your brother?
The best part of working with your sibling would probably be that we live together so we can constantly work on music. We can also be pretty competitive which is usually a good thing, but sometimes not.

You’re signed to Zedd’s publishing label. How did he discover your music?
Our first two releases were remixes of Zedd and Skrillex. We got a hold of Skrillex’s email from a friend and decided to send our remix to him. He somehow saw it and asked us to send him whatever else we had. We sent the Zedd remix and he forwarded it to Zedd and his manager, and the rest is history!

What’s Zedd like to work with?
He’s one of the most reliable guys we’ve ever met. Never makes promises he can’t keep and always delivers. Super fun to work with because we have a lot of the same tastes and influences in music. He has definitely been a mentor over the past couple of years.

How did “Starving” come about?
Our manager sent over a SoundCloud link with a list of a cappellas from Asia Whiteacre. Once we heard “Starving,” we both loved it. We produced it out over the next couple of days and showed it to Zedd and he loved it. He hit up Hailee and told her she needed to come into the studio to check it out. Hailee loved it. We never thought it would do as well as it did. We’re not complaining though!

Was the plan always to be artist/producers as opposed to staying behind the boards?
Yeah we planned on being artists from the very beginning. We’ve always wanted to tour the world and play shows. We are performers at heart.

Do you feel any pressure to match the success of “Starving” with your new single?
Of course we’d love for “I Miss You” to do just as well, but at a certain point you just have to let go and know your job is done. Everyone involved worked really hard to make it the best it can be, so hopefully the music will speak for itself!

How did “I Miss You” come together?
“I Miss You” came together almost the same way “Starving” did actually. Our manager sent us the topline, we loved it and produced it out that week. When Bahari cut the vocal, it just fit so well with the vibe we were imagining, it’s like it was made for them to sing it.

What was it like to work with Bahari?
The Bahari girls are really fun to work with. They are super talented and friendly. Always have a good time when we’re in the studio.

You’ve been lucky enough to work with some high-profile collaborators. Who’s next?
Guess you will have to wait and see.

Is there an EP or album on the way?
EP!
