Watch Ed Sheeran clown around with Jimmy Fallon and the Roots for this super fun rendition.

Lesson learned: Don’t let Ed Sheeran play golf while drunk. In an otherwise straightforward interview with The Guardian, discussing Divide and the increasing perils of fame, he tells a harrowing tale of how he once hit Justin Bieber in the face with a golf club — proof of how even billions-selling singer-songwriters screw up occasionally:

We were in Japan. We’d been out to a dive bar. He just drank water and I got hammered. Then we went to a golf course, and he lay on the floor and put a golf ball in his mouth and told me to hit it out of his mouth. I was like, ‘Fuck, I need to aim this properly,’ and I swung. And you know in films when someone gets punched, and you hear that fake sound, like a slap? But in real life when someone gets punched, you hear that dull thud, a bit sickening?

Sheeran ended up hitting Bieber in the cheek with a golf club, which, ouch.

The “Shape of You” artist didn’t say whether this incident — “one of those ‘What the fuck?’ moments” — was before or after he wrote “Love Yourself,” Bieber’s Purpose single that became 2016’s biggest selling song, or “Cold Water,” the Major Lazer collaboration that went No. 1 in 17 countries. But here’s to hoping that their friendship is still intact.
