It’s a big day for Lorde! The Kiwi superstar rolled out her much-hyped new single, “Green Light,” and then unveiled the cover of sophomore LP, Melodrama (due this summer). “‘Green Light’ is officially out in the world, and I am so pleased to share with you that this song is the first from my sophomore record, Melodrama,” she captioned an Instagram post. “This is the cover, painted by Sam McKinniss. Welcome to the new world.” The artwork is definitely striking with its blue color tone and the subject’s defiant glare.

As for “Green Light,” it represents something of a new sound for Lorde. It’s more upbeat and veers dangerously close to commercial pop, but the lyrics are typically twisted. “[The song] the first chapter of a story I’m gonna tell you, the story of the last two wild, fluorescent years of my life,” Ella explained on social media. Hopefully, subsequent installments will include some of the doom and gloom we’ve come to expect from the “Team” hitmaker. Check out her Melodrama cover above and watch “Green Light” below.
