James Corden remembers when the late George Michael agreed to do the first Carpool Karaoke.

George Michael died of natural causes, according to the coroner investigating his death. “As there is a confirmed natural cause of death, being Dilated Cardiomyopathy with Myocarditis and Fatty Liver, the investigation is being discontinued and there is no need for an inquest or any further enquiries,” a statement reads (via CNN).

Dilated cardiomyopathy is a form of heart disease where the left ventricle fails to effectively pump blood, while myocarditis refers to heart inflammation. Causes for a fatty liver include alcoholism, but also obesity and diabetes.

During this investigation, the pop superstar was speculated to have died of AIDS. Andrios Georgiou, a former producer who claims to be George’s childhood friend, told the BBC (via The Sun) that “hard drugs,” including crack cocaine, “had been back in his life.” Longtime partner Fadi Fawaz‘s Twitter account was hacked to say that George was suicidal.

This coroner’s report puts those rumors to rest. “No further updates will be provided and the family requests the media and public respect their privacy,” the statement reads.
