Robyn Debuts New Song "Honey" On 'Girls'
Is new Robyn finally on the way? The Swedish pop star debuted "Honey" on 'Girls.'

Robyn has released two new songs in the space of two days! As much as I want to interpret this as a sign that the excruciating seven-year wait between albums almost over, experience has taught me that the Swede does things at her own (glacial) pace. So don’t hold your breath. Now that I’ve got that off my chest, let’s get back to the music. A day after teasing a new track called “Honey” on an episode of Girls, the 37-year-old unveils “That Could Have Been Me” — a shimmery synth-ballad produced by the legendary Todd Rundgren.

“I thought I was your super girl, but you had something else in mind,” Robyn laments over sad synths. “You promised a place in your world for me, but it’s so cold and undefined.” That takes us to the soulful, vaguely ’80s chorus. “I will swallow my pride (what will be will be), when you roll over at night (tell me what you see),” she sings. “That empty pillow by your side (that could have been me), that could have been me.” The very, very good track features on Todd’s new LP, White Knight, which drops May 12.

“That Could Have Been Me” is streaming exclusively at Pitchfork. Take a listen here. Check out the cover and star-studded tracklist of the producer’s new album below.
