Charli XCX's 'Number 1 Angel': Mixtape Review
Charli XCX's 'Number 1 Angel' mixtape is better than most albums. Read our review.

It’s hard to talk about a highlight when it comes to Charli XCX’s Number 1 Angel mixtape because it’s uniformly excellent. If pushed, however, “ILY2” would rank as one of my favorites alongside “Lipgloss” (CupcakKe’s breakout feature) and “Babygirl” (Uffie’s comeback). The bouncy banger finds a winning middle ground between the Brit’s pop sensibility and PC Music’s demented electronica, although the pendulum swings towards the latter on a new remix by Danny L Harle.

The “Euphoria Edit” really lives up to its title. The producer removes all the lyrics, ramps up the BPMs and delivers a furious, yet still oddly adorable floorfiller with an edge. It’s shaping up to be a big year for Charli. She finally found a way to get her music to fans without being thwarted by her record label and has a feature on Mura Masa’s ruthlessly catchy “1 Night.” She has also been in the studio with Carly Rae Jepsen, so she’s winning all around. Listen to her “ILY2” remix below and check out the original at the bottom of the post.
