We review Kygo & Selena Gomez's moody club collab, "It Ain't Me."

EDIT: Updated with full song.

New Music Friday is going to be intense! Demi Lovato and Ariana Grande (hers hasn’t been confirmed) are expected to rollout club collaborations, while Selena Gomez makes it a trio of ex-acts with “Only You.” The 24-year-old covers Yazoo’s (or Yaz’s, in North America) classic synth-ballad for the soundtrack of her new Netflix series, 13 Reasons Why. Tackling the song is a daunting task for anyone given the quality of Alison Moyet’s vocal, but the Revival diva takes it in a different direction.

Instead of delivering a lush, romantic ballad, the pop star injects “Only You” with a lot of darkness. Her version sounds moody with eerie synths and an ominous arrangement. It will be interesting to hear the full song, but Selena definitely puts her own spin on the much-covered favorite. With any luck, the video for “It Ain’t Me” will be the next project to arrive. (At this point, it’s in danger of being a little too late). Anyway, compare Sel’s version of the classic track, which drops on Thursday night (March 30), with the original below.
