Cashmere Cat, SOPHIE & MØ’s “9 (After Coachella)” Has The Year’s Wildest Drop

Cashmere Cat and SOPHIE turn out to be match made in demented EDM heaven. After dabbling in radio-friendly club/pop on “Trust Nobody” and “Love Incredible,” the Norwegian producer gets back to his oddball roots on -voiced banger, “9 (After Coachella).” The influence of his PC Music-popularizing collaborator is palpable as the song twists and turns like an unexplained object in the Arizona sky. Pay particular attention to the lengthy drop, which is the craziest thing I’ve heard in a while.

While this is unlikely to win over less-daring music fans, “9 (After Coachella)” does have a pop sensibility. “I like the way your body moves, I like the way you spread confusion,” MØ sings over bone-rattling beats. “I love the way my heart is blooming, you’ll never be mine.” I’m not sure if this is the latest single from Cashmere Cat’s upcoming debut LP, 9 (previously Wild Love), or a special, festival-only release. Regardless, it’s a breath of fresh air. You can stream the wacky banger below from midnight tonight.
