The Past & Present Collide In Grace Mitchell’s “Now” Video
Grace Mitchell rocked New Music Friday to its core with ’80s-tinged pop anthem, “Now”. The 19-year-old, who is destined to cause a splash at Coachella, drops the video today (April 11) and it also owes a debt to the late 20th century. However, it’s not a simple homage. “Past, present, future, dreams, possibilities, desires… don’t you wanna be in the now?” she says of the song. “[It’s] about living your truest self and reveling in the glamour and chaos of the present moment.”
As for the video? “Let the magical and infectious visuals take you to a place void of time and space,” Grace says. It does this via distorted images, retro technology and quirky performance pieces. It all comes to a head at the end when she uses a sword to break out of her box and explore a brave new world. At least, that’s my interpretation. The Portland, Oregon native first made waves with 2015’s Raceday EP. “Now” is the second taste of her debut LP after buzz track, “Kids (Ain’t All Right).” Check it out below.
