Selena Gomez Covers "Only You"
Selena Gomez covers Yaz's "Only You" for '13 Reasons Why' soundtrack.

There’s no doubt about it, 13 Reasons Why is a pop culture phenomenon. The series is breaking all kinds of records for Netflix, turned Australian actress Katherine Langford (Hannah Baker) into a star overnight and spawned a mega-successful soundtrack. The most-buzzed about tracks on the album are Lord Huron’s 2015 ballad, “The Night We Met,” which is shaping up to be a (very) belated hit, and Selena Gomez’s eerie cover of Yaz’s ’80s classic “Only You.” It gets a lyric video (below) today comprised of footage from the grueling show.

Covering “Only You” is a daunting task for anyone given the quality of Alison Moyet’s vocal, but Selena makes it her own — taking it in a dark, mysterious direction. The audio version has already racked up 10 million views on YouTube, which means the lyric video will get a lot of eyeballs. When you factor in strong streaming numbers on Spotify, it wouldn’t be surprising if this starts creeping up the charts in a couple of weeks. If you like this, you should also check out the acoustic version of “Kill Em With Kindness.” It also features on the 13 Reasons Why soundtrack.
