Charlie Puth Takes It To The Next Level With “Attention”

Charlie Puth has a Song Of The Summer contender on his hands with “Attention.” Not only that, but the 25-year-old pulls off something of a magic trick — pushing his sound in a more credible direction without alienating fans of Nine Track Mind. “You’ve been runnin’ round, runnin’ round, runnin’ round throwing that dirt all on my name,” he begins the song, before detailing his ex’s bad behavior. Charlie’s conclusion? “You just want attention, you don’t want my heart,” the chart-topper laments. “Maybe you just hate the thought of me with someone new.”

He’s still the boy next door, just a little more jaded and a lot more willing to speak his mind. That boldness also comes through on the production, which Charlie handled himself. “Attention” is slicker than an oil spill, chugging along with chunky bass and faint traces of disco. When you factor in the “See You Again” singer’s knack for vocal hooks and relatable lyrics, chart domination seems like a forgone conclusion. Charlie launched the song, which was co-written by J Kash, in “an immersive music exhibit” called The Attention Room. Stream it below.
