Miley Cyrus Announces New Single 'Malibu'
Miley Cyrus covers 'Billboard' and announces new single 'Malibu.'

Miley Cyrus means business. The pop star has her heart set on chart domination and she’s doing everything in her power to make it happen with a surge of promo to support her new single, “Malibu” (due May 11). She has already appeared on the cover of Billboard (and ruffled a few feathers with her disparaging comments about hip-hop in interview) and has multiple performances lined up including the iHeartSummer ’17 Weekend, Today’s Citi Concert Series and Wango Tango. You can add the Billboard Music Awards to that list.

The 24-year-old announced the performance via a commercial for the event, which takes place on May 21 in Las Vegas. It also provides the first snippet of “Malibu” as well as a glimpse of the video. On the first listen, it’s a lot more uptempo than I expected given the “breezy pop/rock” description in Billboard. “Next to you in Malibu,” she coos over driving synths. The song has a distinct whiff of faux Lana Del Rey about it, but it’s already stuck in my head. Which is a good sign. Watch Miley run along a beach with a bunch of balloons in the video tease below.
