Halsey & Lauren's Epic "Strangers"
Halsey teams up with Lauren Jauregui for "Strangers," a song for LGBT fans.

“Strangers,” a slinky love song for the LGBT community featuring Fifth Harmony singer Lauren Jauregui, is one of the highlights of Halsey’s hopeless fountain kingdom LP. And also one of the most radical. “I was thinking to myself, if I want this song to be believable, it needs to be real,” Halsey said on The Zach Sang Show. “So I’m not going to put a girl on the song to sing who’s straight. I’m just not going to do it.” The result is an unusually authentic anthem that is fraught with sexual tension and longing.

“We’re not lovers, we’re just strangers with the same damn hunger,” they sing over ’80s synths on the chorus, “to be touched, to be loved, to feel anything at all.” It’s not the kind of content you usually see performed on breakfast TV, but it should be. So Halsey deserves props for bringing it — and her big-lunged collaborator — to The Today Show. The impressive rendition begins with the dueling divas facing opposite directions, before they get a little closer and land an important blow for LGBT visibility. Watch below.
