Geri Horner Pays Tribute To George Michael On New Single “Angels In Chains”
Geri Horner, perhaps better known as Geri Halliwell or Ginger Spice, will release her first global single in 12 years on June 23. (Of course, she dropped Australia-only bop “Half Of Me” in 2013). “Angel In Chains” is a charity single that honors her close friend George Michael. It was produced by Chris Porter and recorded with a bevy of the late singer’s frequent collaborators. Geri began working on the track after hearing of George’s death on Christmas day 2016.
“When I first heard the sad news of his passing, I was nine months pregnant with my son Monty and I was full of emotions,” the 44-year-old said in a press release. “I didn’t know quite what to do with my feelings so I put it in a song.” “Angels in Chains” has been billed as a soulful ballad that will showcase Geri’s songwriting and offer an opportunity to heal in the wake of the loss. Many of the lyrics pay tribute to songs from George’s iconic discography, which will undoubtedly touch fans of the “Faith” singer.
“Angels In Chains” will arrive two days before George’s birthday and also mark the much-missed diva’s first major release since her 2005 LP, Passion. “I found how healing making this record had been not only for me but also for everyone involved,” she said. Proceeds from the single will be donated to Childline, a group dedicated to providing support to children in the UK. Childline was a favorite charity of the late superstar’s.
