Katy Perry's 'Witness': Album Review
Katy Perry boldly explores club sub-genres on her banger-heavy new album.

Everyone knows RuPaul has exquisite taste. From his illustrious pop career to the immaculate playlists he shares with followers on Twitter, the drag legend knows a bop when he hears one! And that makes his thoughts on Katy Perry’s Witness album worth writing about. I asked the ageless multi-hyphenate, who spoke played charades with the diva during her Witness World Wide livestream, to list his favorite songs on the album and he kindly obliged. Ru is feeling the ’90s-tinged “Roulette,” new-age bop “Power” and current single “Swish Swish.”

The latter, in particular, needs to used for a lip sync throw-down next season! Coincidentally, RuPaul released a new album on exactly the same day as Katy. Essential, Vol. 2 rounds up the pop pioneer’s best songs from the Drag Race era, covering material from 2009’s Champion all the way through to last year’s Butch Queen. Impressively, this is Ru’s third album of the year after political opus American and Remember Me: Essential Vol. 1 — a collection of earlier material that has been remixed to find a whole new audience.
