Try another genre? Liam Payne's 'Strip That Down' video is as awkward as the song.

Zedd promised big things for his collaboration with Liam Payne on their newly released single “Get Low,” but they’ve slightly missed the mark. The duo announced the track and shared the colorful cover earlier this week, before officially releasing it today (July 6). The summer has delivered several great dance-pop collaborations, but the pair err on the side of safe and bland for their first time working together.

“Get low, get low, hands on your waist, let’s go,” Liam proclaims to a potential lover over buoyant synths on the chorus. His delivery has the potential to become a bit of an earworm with repeated listens, but there isn’t much substance to the track. It would have greatly benefited from the addition of a drop or some heavier bass to provide a counterweight for the soaring heights they reach on the tropical-tinged release. Instead, “Get Low” sizzles with it’s bright production but fails to boil over into serious hit potential.

Luckily, both of them are already burning up the charts. Zedd’s Alessia Cara collab “Stay” is sitting just outside the top 10 this week, while Liam’s solo debut “Strip That Down” has already peaked inside the top 40. As he turns his promotional efforts toward the US market, it’s likely that the hip hop-tinged bop will rise even higher in the weeks to come. Listen to “Get Low” below.
