YG Entertainment’s New Star ONE Drops Debut Album
From BLACKPINK to CL, YG Entertainment is home to K-Pop’s most famous exports. Which makes any addition to their roster newsworthy. ONE, previously a member of rap duo 1PUNCH, is being heralded as the label’s first male solo artist to debut in 14 years. I’m a little confused by that statistic (what about G-Dragon and PSY?), but it doesn’t change the fact that his debut album a big deal. One Day arrived this week and promptly topped iTunes throughout Asia. It’s also getting a flashy physical release.
There will be two versions of the album — an AM and PM edition, each with different covers. The package includes a CD, a photo-book, a lyric sheet, a photo-card and a double-sided poster. As for the music, ONE makes slick hip-hop bops with that hold up to anything coming out of America. If anything, the production is a little more forward-looking, as dual lead singles “Gettin’ By” and “hayahe” (my favorite) attest. The rapper has filmed videos for both. Check them out below.
