Ed Sheeran's 'Divide': Album Review
The unexpected pop star plays it terribly safe in his third album, featuring 'Shape of You.'

Ed Sheeran has had a tumultuous relationship with Twitter lately. In an interview earlier this month, the hitmaker said that he would step away from the service because dealing with haters was getting to be too much. Lady Gaga‘s Monsters were the cause of his complaints at that point, as they were harassing him due to comments they presumed were about their beloved Mother Monster. “Lady Gaga’s fanbase read an interview in which they assumed I was talking about her and they all fucking hate,” he said.

The interview in question was with Beats 1, during which he said that he didn’t want to become like artists who have two massively successful eras and then get caught up in their own ego and self sabotage. Though he didn’t name any names, it was presumed by fans that this was in reference to the Joanne siren who suffered a series of missteps with her previous albums. After addressing his haters, Gaga was quick to hop to his defense and request her fans to step back from him. However, it seems like it was too little too late.

Today (July 18), Ed took things one step further by deleting his account entirely. Following his appearance on the latest episode of Game of Thrones and the announcement that he would be guest starring on a new episode of The Simpsons, the “Shape of You” crooner cancelled his account temporarily. It has subsequently been reinstated, but almost all of his 20 million+ followers have been erased. Ed has also eliminated all of his tweets from up until 2015, and he has posted a message that leads fans to his Instagram page. “I don’t use this anymore,” he wrote in his bio. Since the announcement he has remained active on Instagram, posting some pics from his latest television appearance and sharing a video of his cat. Guess that’s where we’ll be keeping up to date with the latest from Ed from here on out.
