After taking three years off to get married and have a child, Jessie Ware returns today (July 28) with soulful anthem called “Midnight.” The UK singer makes up for lost time, delivering one of her best vocals to date. “[This] is the song I’ve always wanted to be able to sing but perhaps didn’t have the confidence until now,” she says of the instantly catchy tack, which was produced by Carrius Gold and Pop Wansel. It’s a record for adults that explores the initial rush of new love and sounds very much like a throwback to another era.

“I’m scheming, keep dreaming ’bout a world where we are an item,” Jessie croons. “Can I miss you in the daylight Whenever you’re around, I’m lifted.” “Midnight” is lead single from the “Say You Love Me” hitmaker’s third LP. While that project has largely been kept under wraps, contributors include Felix and Hugo White from The Maccabees, Kid Harpoon, Ed Sheeran and long-time collaborator Benny Blanco. It sounds like she really means business this time around. Listen to the Brit’s latest below.
