Maroon 5's 'Cold' Video
Adam Levine parties at Future's crib, to find his drink was spiked with acid (or something).

Maroon 5 went on a mini-hiatus after releasing “Cold” earlier this year, but the veteran hitmakers are back with their catchiest single since “Sugar.” Written by Starrah (Rihanna’s “Needed Me” and Halsey’s “Now Or Never”) and produced by Jason Evigan and Ben Billions, “What Lovers Do” is a hook-laden pop anthem with a winning feature from SZA. “Tell me tell me if you love me or not, love me or not, love me or not,” Adam Levine croons on the chorus. “I bet the house on you, am I lucky or not, lucky or not, lucky or not?”

It turns out, good fortune is definitely on his side. SZA returns the love in her verse and they come together in the bridge. “Are we too grown for games? Are we too grown to play around?” they ponder. “Young enough to chase, but old enough to know better.” While previous singles from the band’s upcoming album nudged them into rhythmic territory courtesy of features from Kendrick Lamar and Future, this is something of a throwback to the light and breezy (yet forward-looking) pop of Overexposed.
