Kelly Clarkson performed new single “Love So Soft” for the first time earlier this morning (September 8) on The Today Show and she put on a master class. Backed by a full band and a trio of backing singers, the comeback queen pulled the vocal trigger — reminding everyone in the audience (and watching at home) that she has one of the best voices in music. I wondered how the spitfire verses would translate live, but the 35-year-old powered through them without missing a beat.

In addition to belting out her latest, Kelly also dusted off “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” and “Walk Away.” The latter always sounds great live and today’s performance was no exception. “Love So Soft” is off to a great start. Critics and fans have reacted favorably to the hitmaker’s soulful new sound and the song is already top 10 on iTunes on the busiest New Music Friday in recent memory. This is all good news for the inaugural American Idol winner’s 8th LP, Meaning Of Life (due October 27). Watch the full concert up top.
