Toni Braxton Is Working On New Material
Good news! Toni Braxton is back in the studio and working on new music.

And she’s back! Toni Braxton returns today (September 14) with her first single since 2012’s “I Heart You” and it’s a stunning return to form. Produced by Fred Ball (Rihanna’s “Love On The Brain”), “Deadwood” is a classic R&B ballad that showcases the 7-time Grammy winner’s powerful pipes and emotional delivery. “Just wanna let you know, I won’t let this one go,” she croons over strummed guitar, a chunky bass line and strings. “You got me down but I ain’t out, think you got me good/left me like some deadwood, I may be down but I’ll turn it ’round.”

As much as I love Toni’s club bangers and sexy bedroom anthems, heartbreak is what she does best and “Deadwood” is a worthy addition to her canon of tear-soaked ballads (think “Un-Break My Heart and “Breathe Again”). It will be interesting to see how the timeless-sounding track works on radio in the age of rap features and EDM drops, but it’s sure to find love with fans of old-school soul. If this is any indication, the 49-year-old’s Sex & Cigarettes LP (due early 2018) is going to be something special. Listen to the track below.
