The Drop: Allie X & Tove Styrke
Your guide to New Music Friday featuring Allie X and Tove Styrke.

Tove Styrke already lays claim to one of the best pop songs of 2017 courtesy of “Say My Name” (not a Destiny’s Child cover). The Swedish diva backs it up with an equally catchy bop called “Mistakes.” This is minimal electro-pop with maximum impact. “Doing something I can’t explain now, putting pictures on my brain now,” she sets the scene at the beginning of the Elof Loelv-produced anthem. “But really I should get some me time, before I do something I can’t rewind.” She’s close to giving into temptation by the arrival of the chorus.

“You make me, you make me, you make me wanna make mistakes,” she sings over crisp synths. “Love how bittersweet it tastes.” Tove recently canceled US tour dates to complete her sophomore LP and it looks like the gamble is paying off. After all, she set the bar extremely high with 2015’s Kiddo. That opus spawned hits “Borderline” and “Ego” and established the 24-year-old as one of Scandinavia’s hottest exports.
