Kygo’s “Stargazing” Video Is Beautiful & Very Depressing
From the car crash in “It Ain’t Me” to the house fire in “First Time,” a lot of people die in Kygo videos. The death toll continues to rise in “Stargazing.” Directed by Phillip R. Lopez, the visual documents a boy’s struggle to process the death of his father. He concocts a plan to reconnect with him in the heavens via a homemade rocket ship. That scenario is already pretty bleak, but feels appropriate for the melancholy banger. However, the very unhappy ending takes it a step too far.
If the clip had ended with the boy’s friends and family pushing the rocket along the ground, it would have been perfect. Instead, it pivots from uplifting to morose in a split second. Regardless of the pitch-black visual, “Stargazing” is Kygo’s best single since “It Ain’t Me” and sounds like a hit. It’s also introduces talented newcomer Justin Jesso and is yet another reason to check out the DJ’s similarly-titled EP (which is a mini greatest hits). Grab a tissue and watch the depressing video up top.
