G-Eazy & Halsey’s “Him & I” Is A Moody, Romantic Bop

Real-life lovers G-Eazy and Halsey proclaim themselves the modern day Bonnie and Clyde on their first joint song, “Him & I.” Released today (December 1), it is a moody bop and the third offering from the rapper’s forthcoming LP, The Beautiful & Damned. “I’ve wanted to work with Halsey for a long time,” he said in an interview with Fuse. He went on to describe their first effort together as “a pretty intense, crazy in love song,” which is a fairly accurate description.

Both of the hitmakers are currently dominating the Billboard Hot 100 with individual singles. However, they likely have another massive hit on their hand with the dark-pop release. With production from The Futuristics, “Him & I” is a looming and sparse anthem in the style of “Me, Myself, & I.” Halsey’s voice is particularly bewitching as it resonates over haunting beats.

“Cross my heart, hope to die. To my lover, I’d never lie. He said ‘be true,’ I swear, ‘I’ll try.’ In the end it’s him and I,” the “Bad At Love” siren announces on the opening lines. Eazy’s verses are equally besotted though a little darker than your standard love song. “Swear we drive each other crazy, man, she be so stubborn. But, what the fuck is love with no pain, no suffer,” he demands. Later he also promises theirs is a love that will last until the end of time.

The Beautiful & Damned is shaping up to be one of the strongest releases this quarter, and “Him & I” is the most beguiling taste so far. G-Eazy and Halsey played things right with the cut, and it feels like an accurate depiction of their relationship. Hopefully they have a music video in the works. If so it is safe to expect the single to dominate the charts into next year. Listen to the fiery new release below!
