UPDATE: “MIC Drop” debuts at an impressed number 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week.

BTS has broken all kinds of new ground for a K-Pop act in 2017. The seven-member group debuted at number 7 on the Billboard 200 with mini-album Love Yourself: Her, stole the show at the American Music Awards and reached number one on iTunes with a remix of “MIC Drop.” That banger, which was produced by Steve Aoki and features a verse by Desiigner, is destined to become their biggest ever hit thanks to healthy downloads, a killer performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live and a breakthrough at pop radio.

While it’s not unusual for a new K-Pop single to have a splashy debut on iTunes, it usually falls off the chart the following day and almost never get added to pop radio. BTS bucked that trend when “MIC Drop” spent over a week in the iTunes top 10 and racked up enough airplay to crack the top 50 at pop radio. It looks like the super group has well and truly crossed over and now has a firm foothold in the US market. See their performance of recent single “DNA” on The Late Late Show below.
