Charli XCX Teams Up With Kim Petras & Jay Park For “Unlock It”
Charli XCX announced Pop 2, the star-studded followup to her Number 1 Angel mixtape, last week and rolled out the lead single. Featuring Tove Lo and ALMA, “Out Of My Head” is shimmery electro-pop perfection and sets the bar pretty high for the rest of the project. However, it looks like the Brit will have no trouble maintaining that level of quality. Today (December 11), she shared “Unlock It” and it’s equally good. Produced by A. G. Cook and Life Sim, this is the perfect meeting point between mainstream pop and PC Music.
“Rollercoaster ride in the fast lane, got the roof down, kiss me hard in the rain,” Charli sings on the sugary sweet chorus. “You got the candy colored eyes, ink and gold chain.” Just when you thought she was playing it a little safe, the demented post-chorus kicks in. “Lock it, lock it, lock-lock it, lock it, lock it.” As with “Out Of My Head,” the “Boys” hitmaker calls on some friends to add a little spice. Rising diva Kim Petras adds a saucy verse, while K-Pop rapper Jay Park drops the iconic line “big appetite, girl you my dinner.” Listen below.
