Ed Sheeran's 'Divide': Album Review
The unexpected pop star plays it safe on his third album, featuring 'Shape of You.'

Ed Sheeran’s collaborative 2017 culminates tonight (December 15) with the release of three new tracks. He teams up with opera superstar Andrea Bocelli for a classical version of “Perfect” and drops two features. The Brit lends his voice to Eminem’s “River” and sings the hook on N.E.R.D’s “Lifting You.” They are all unexpected, but the latter is perhaps the most experimental. The last song of the rap trio’s No One Ever Really Dies LP is an ode to wild nights over a typically restrained, hypnotic beat.

“It’s working for sure, gonna be hurting tomorrow,” the party anthem begins. “But tonight, hey hey — we’re going for it (don’t judge me).” Ed steps in for the chorus, which doesn’t sound as out of place as you would expect. “So let them say what they want to about us,” he croons. “When they say your name, they’re lifting you.” It will be interesting to see if this is pushed as a single or passed over in favor of another collaboration. (They also have songs with Future, Kendrick Lamar and Andre 3000). Stream below.
