Kesha Puts A Fresh Spin On “This Is Me” From ‘The Greatest Showman’

Talk about the perfect year-end gift for fans! Earlier this week Kesha announced that she would be unleashing a reworked version of The Greatest Showman power ballad “This Is Me.” Originally performed by Broadway star Keala Settle, she explained that the song had a great personal meaning to her. Fans have been clamoring to hear her rendition, which was released today (December 22). Trust me when I say it was worth the wait.

The “Learn To Let Go” superstar definitely put her own spin on the inspiring song. She teamed up with producer Stuart Crichton to transform the release into something a little more up her alley. While it still retains the power of its original performance, it takes on an almost autobiographical feeling as she tackles the earnest lyrics and sings about overcoming adversity.

“I won’t let them break me down to dust. I know there’s a place for us, for we are glorious,” she vows on the swelling pre-chorus. The production builds underneath the 30-year-old’s voice as she soars through the empowering chorus. “When the sharpest words wanna cut me down, I’m gonna sent a flood, gonna drown them out. I am brave, I am proof I am who I’m meant to be, this is me,” she sings with the utmost conviction. With every repetition of the lines her voice becomes even more assured, until she closes the track out with a meteoric moment that is sure to induce chills.

It is hard to imagine a better way for Kesha to close out her 2017 than with another moving ballad. Since the release of “Praying” earlier this year, the hitmaker has truly proven that her story is one of healing and peace. “This Is Me” could not be more on-brand, and it could not sound better in her hands. Hopefully we will have a chance to see her perform the track live in the near future. Until then listen to her reworking of the track below!
