The 50 Best Songs Of 2017
From "Slow Hands" to "Bad Liar," we round up the best pop songs of 2017.

2018 is still young, but the music business is back in full swing with a bumper New Music Friday. Hopefully, Noah Kahan’s very good Hurt Somebody doesn’t get lost in the mix. The singer/songwriter made waves last year with a string of impressive singles (“Young Blood” was my favorite), but he’s clearly ready to take it to the next level with the title of track of his debut EP. The stripped-back track has already been remixed by Matoma and now gets an overhaul featuring the always-brilliant Julia Michaels.

“Taking it slowly, I’m afraid to be lonely,” Noah begins the song over plucked guitar. “Nobody told me, it’s harder than I thought to tell the truth.” Julia arrives a couple of verses later. “Don’t know where the time went, stuck in the wrong mindset,” she laments. “I let the rules bend, when I know that all along they’re made to break.” They come together for the deceptively-catchy chorus. “Hold me close and I won’t leave, ’cause it hurts when you hurt somebody.” Fingers crossed this catches on. Pop radio would be a better place with Noah’s voice on it. Listen below.
