New music from Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd & SZA on the 'Black Panther' soundtrack.

The Weeknd and Kendrick Lamar join forces on “Pray For Me.” Released today (February 2), the moody midtempo is included on the soundtrack for Marvel’s Black Panther. Over a slick production courtesy of Sounwave, CuBeatz, Cardo and Matt Schaeffer, the collaborators go to war side-by-side in an ode to loyalty and friendship.

“Who gon’ pray for me? Take my pain for me? Save my soul for me? ‘Cause I’m alone you see. If I’m gon’ die for you, if I’m gon’ kill for you, then I’ll spill this blood for you,” The Weeknd declares over haunting beats on the chorus. The “HUMBLE.” rapper comes in for an inspiring verse of his own. “Who need a hero? You need a hero, look in the mirror. There go he, hero,” he raps.

This marks the second time the duo have worked together. In 2016 they united over electric strings for a forward-thinking collaboration on “Sidewalks.” Their latest is just as strong and could shape up to be a serious hit. The brooding production and bold lyrics feel very current and should soar up the charts with a handful of promotional appearances.

“Pray For Me” is one of five contributions Kendrick makes to the soundtrack. We have already heard his SZA-assisted “All The Stars,” but he also appears on the title track and on a collaboration with Travis Scott on “Big Shot.” He wraps up his involvement with the film alongside Jay Rock, Future and James Blake on “King’s Dead.”

The soundtrack includes additional music from the likes of Khalid, UK singer Jorja Smith and South African breakout star Babes Wodumo. With contributions from the biggest names in hip-hop as well as some of the most promising up-and-coming talents, the album is shaping up to be big. It will drop on streaming services February 9 with a physical release following alongside the film release February 16. Until then give “Pray For You” a spin below!
