Britney Spears' 'Glory': Album Review
Is Britney Spears' new LP something sensational? Find out in our 'Glory' review.

After penning bangers for artists as diverse as Britney Spears (“Love Me Down”), Brooke Candy (“Opulence”) and LAUV (“Easy Love”), Jesse Saint John finally unleashes one of his own. A rollicking alt-dance/pop hybrid, “Move” evokes the raw energy of early Le Tigre and Electric Six with a heavy dollop of the pop sensibility that informs his songwriting. Straddling the underground and mainstream pop worlds is incredibly difficult, but the new king of queercore makes it look easy.

“God you’re such a narcissist, you might as well be dancing with yourself,” Jesse laments over frenetic production. “Jerking me around but too much jerking, can’t be too good for your health.” (Shade). That takes us to the infectious chorus, which burrows further into your brain with each listen. “Tic tac toe, I wanna hit that,” he croons. “I should probably sit back, you make me mo-o-ove.” At a time when popular music is retreating to polite mid-tempos, JSJ is bravely taking us back to the dance floor.
