Remy Ma Celebrates Black Women In Her “Melanin Magic” Video
Remy Ma and Chris Brown highlight the regality of brown skin in the video for their joint single, “Melanin Magic.” The duo joined forces for the second track off Remy’s forthcoming LP, 7 Summers & 6 Winters, last month. Complete with a sample of Mint Condition’s “Breakin’ My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes),” it has massive crossover appeal and could become a respectable hit. Released yesterday (February 14), the self-directed visual will hopefully give it some momentum.
Rocking a series of chic looks in various shades of brown, the femcee and her dancers are a vision in caramel, tan and chocolate. Delivering glamorous poses and searing looks, the ladies are as lovely as any work of art, and Chris smoothly dances around their statuesque figures. The visual is simple and all the more striking for it. Shot in warm tones and with its uplifting message, it could become a viral success as we prepare to leave the chill of winter for spring.
The “Wake Me Up” rapper also shared a heartfelt letter to fans who have struggled to accept their skin tone. “Don’t let anyone tell you that you aren’t enough. You are smart and incredibly important. Be proud of your natural look and celebrate your hypnotizing beauty. Let your melanin skin shine bright,” she encouraged them before opening up about her own personal struggles. “I know firsthand how it is to be judged for almost everything you do, so to my black women, I want you to know that you are valued in a world that sometimes takes us for granted,” she wrote before ending with an empowering message. “Your melanin makes you exactly who you are and your black is so magical.” Watch the video up top and read the rest of Remy’s emotional letter below!
