You guide to New Music Friday featuring Thomas Rhett & Maren Morris.

Maren Morris sat down with Zane Lowe to talk about “The Middle,” her hit club collaboration with Zedd, but also opened up about her much-anticipated sophomore LP. “I have to do a lot of preproduction before the summer because I’m going out with Niall Horan for the whole summer and there’s no in-between going home dates so I’m going to be gone for three months basically and I have to do a lot of preproduction for the album beforehand,” the “I Could Use A Love Song” singer revealed.

As for the direction? “It’s still really soulful and rooted in country but there’s still like these R&B vibes to it and it’s kind of like the first one, it was a little bit of everything,” she explains. “I am still writing I have like 10 more writes on the books so I’m excited to see what comes out that kind.” While she’s dabbling in other genres, Maren has no intention of leaving her first love behind. “It’s a little bit of everything but still really rooted in a country where I’ll always be.”

The 27-year-old even listed some collaborators. “I am writing with this guy Julian Bunetta who’s amazing and wrote “Slow Hands” for Niall and he’s had a lot of success in the Kanye world as well. So I’m writing with him and Sarah Aarons and Greg Kurstin next month. I’m kind of getting out of my comfort zone on this next record but I’m still writing with a lot of the same friends of mine that were on the first.” While we wait for something new from Maren, check out “The Middle” below and listen to the full interview here.
