Charlie Puth joins forces with Kehlani to offer up the fourth taste of his forthcoming, self-produced LP, Voicenotes. Today (March 15) the 26-year-old unveiled his new single, “Done For Me,” and it picks up where “Attention” and “How Long” left off. On it, he and his collaborator go to battle over a failed relationship. Boasting a danceable beat and enviable production, it is shaping up to be another surefire hit.

“What you think? You think that you could be better off with somebody new,” Charlie growls across the funky production on the opening lines. His frustration builds up and finally boils over on the chorus where he takes his flame to task. “I lie for you, baby. I die for you, baby, cry for you, baby. But tell me what you done for me,” he demands.

Kehlani’s velvety voice comes in for a response, and she makes her own case. “I won’t beg for your love, won’t say please. I won’t fall to the ground on my knees. You know I’ve given this everything,” she announces while the pair find some lush harmonies before reaching an ultimate stalemate. After teaming up on a remix of “Hotline Bling” in 2015, they clearly have great chemistry, which is on full display here.

In an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1, the hitmaker opened up about Voicenotes’ release date. In January he announced plans to postpone the album in order to continue finessing the project. However, as it stands, a new date has been set for May 11. He went on to explain that they recorded another song called “The Way I Am,” which filled a void in the tracklist.

“We didn’t really have a song on there that kind of, we have all these shit talking songs about me being down on L.A. sometimes, but we didn’t have a song that’s about my personality and that’s what this one is. I feel like people could relate to it.”

Alongside “Done For Me,” the tracklist already features a soulful collaboration with Boys II Men on “If You Leave Me Now.” The album will include one final feature, but Charlie remained tight-lipped on any official names just yet. Citing legal concerns about making the big reveal, he did offer a few teasers. “It’s a legend though,” he said. While you speculate who this legend is, give “Done For Me” a listen below!
