A cappella supergroup Pentatonix get a jumpstart on the weekend with another sublime taste of their forthcoming album. Today (March 23) the quintet unveiled a cover of Charlie Puth’s “Attention,” and it continues their winning streak. Transforming the lush production into an a cappella arrangement, they breathe new life into the evocative smash.

Scott Hoying opens the track with a predictably strong vocal performance, and he shares the lead vocal with Kirstin Maldonado and Mitch Grassi. The trio take turns at the top spot and provide some sweet harmonies to fill things out. Once again bass Matt Sallee and beatbox extraordinaire Kevin Olusola keep things centered and fill out the arrangement with their contributions. The accompanying video is a colorful affair that sees each of the members performing in front of a brilliantly hued backdrop. The direction highlights their innovative arrangement and makes for another must-see event.

Their latest release follows in the footsteps of a searing cover of Camila Cabello’s “Havana” and an innovative mashup of Dua Lipa’s “New Rules” and Aaliyah’s “Are You That Somebody.” Videos for both of the tracks are already racking up millions of streams, and it seems likely they will experience similar success with “Attention.” With their forthcoming LP titled PTX Presents: Top Pop, Vol. I, it looks like the tracklist will be comprised of reimagined hits like these. And in their skilled hands, a cover is always as fresh as any original.

2018 is off to a brilliant start for the group. Their album will drop on April 13, and they announced plans for a summer tour kicking off just a few months later. While on the road, they will bring their expansive discography to life with a string of performances across North America. Talk about a hot ticket! While we wait for the full release, give the single a listen and check out the vibrant video up top!
