Rita Ora Apologized For 'Girls'
Rita Ora issued an apology for 'Girls' after a major backlash from out artists.

Featuring the all-star lineup of Rita Ora, Cardi B, Bebe Rexha and Charli XCX, “Girls” was supposed to be the modern equivalent of “Lady Marmalade.” And it got off to a good start, shooting straight into the top 10 on iTunes. But the tide soon turned when people had enough time to digest the questionable lyrics. Out pop star Hayley Kiyoko led the charge by writing an open letter calling the song “tone-deaf.” That sentiment was echoed by Kehlani, who described the lyrics as “harmful.”

To her credit, Rita was quick to respond with a thoughtful apology. “I am sorry [if] how I expressed myself in my song hurt anyone,” she wrote. “I would never intentionally cause harm to other LGBTQ+ people or anyone.” Cardi is the latest member of the quartet to say sorry. “We never try to cause harm or had bad intentions with the song,” the rapper tweeted yesterday (May 15). “I personally myself had experiences with other woman, shiieeett with a lot of woman! I though the song was a good song and I remember my experience.”

The “Be Careful” hitmaker then addressed her past use of homophobic slurs. “I know I have use words before that I wasn’t aware that they are offensive to the LGBT community,” she continued. “I apologize for that. Not everybody knows the correct “terms” to use. I learned and I stopped using it.” See Cardi’s tweets below. Bebe Rexha and Charli XCX are yet to comment.
