The Drop: King Princess & Wallows
Your guide to New Music Friday featuring gems from King Princess and Wallows.

King Princess got everyone’s attention with “1950.” The New Yorker described her debut single as “a love song told through the lens of queerness” and that very necessary perspective struck a chord with everyone from Harry Styles to Charli XCX. The track soon became a viral hit, racking up 66 million streams on Spotify (and counting). She then proved it was no fluke with the forlorn “Talia,” a breakup anthem that positively oozes heartbreak. The video arrived this week and it’s something else.

The newcomer, who is signed to Mark Ronson’s Zelig Records, spends much of the video making out with a sex doll. Instead of being creepy, the clip just exudes loneliness and longing. Which perfectly reflects the song. “Talia” is the second taste of King Princess’s debut EP, Make My Bed (due June 15). She will promote the release with her very first live shows. The buzz artist is booked to perform at The Troubadour in Los Angeles on June 18 and then at New York’s Zone 1 on June 25. Check out her quirky “Talia” video below.
