Christine And The Queens Performs 'Tilted'
The French singer stopped by 'The Tonight Show' to perform hit single 'Tilted.'

It has been an incredible day for music videos. Jennifer Lopez kicked things off with “Dinero,” which features fashion, choreography and a unicorn, while John Mayer held his own with the delightfully uncool “New Light” visual. French pop star Christine And The Queens (real name Héloïse Letissier) might have them beat, however, with “Girlfriend.” The dazzling clip was inspired by Hollywood musicals, Michael Jackson’s “Bad” video and Charles Ebbets’ iconic photos of builders relaxing on girders.

Like the song, which turns gender norms upside down, there’s more to the setup that dance moves and special effects. “The message is both simple and radical,” Christine And The Queens explains. “Simple because the video relies on energy and an effective use of choreography: more physical, sensual and assertive. Radical in terms of its aesthetics: here, the gang concept blurs the lines between ballerina and thug, as was often the case in American musicals such as West Side Story.” Watch in awe up top.
