Shawn Mendes Would Pay $500 For Justin Bieber’s Underpants

Shawn Mendes has a lot to celebrate right about now. The 19-year-old is currently sitting at the top spot on the Billboard 200 with his self-titled, third album. Moving 182,000 equivalent album units, he is enjoying his largest opening week of all time and his third time atop the chart. Aside from being a personal best, it is also the second-largest week for a pop album in 2018 behind Justin Timberlake’s Man Of The Woods. The LP’s anthemic lead single, “In My Blood,” also soared up the Billboard Hot 100. Reaching a new peak at the number 11 spot, he is poised to enter the Top 10 with the right promotional push. And he is unlikely to suffer a second-week slump thanks in large part to a week-long residency on The Late Late Show With James Corden.

The “Lost In Japan” crooner kicked things off last night (May 4) and dropped a couple of bombshells during an segment of Carpool Karaoke. He talked about moving into his own house and his obsession with the Harry Potter series. However, the highlight came when he revealed that he would pay upwards of $500 for a pair of Justin Bieber’s underpants. He and James Corden also hit the ice for a short hockey game and worked their way through a setlist including “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back,” “Mercy,” “Treat You Better” and a handful of tracks off the new album. That’s not all though. Shawn capped off his first night by live premiering his Julia Michaels-co-written “Nervous” on the show’s main stage. Performing in front of full band and an image of a blooming rose, he delivered a perfect vocal. The remainder of the week is sure to be filled with similarly evocative moments. With any luck, the “Issues” siren will join him for a rendition of their duet “Like To Be You.”
