Shawn Mendes celebrates his Portuguese heritage (his father hails from the Algarve) by reworking “In My Blood” for the World Cup. The defiant anthem, which peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this year, was commissioned by Portugal’s Football Federation and now has additional lyrics in their native tongue. “I will believe! That we are going to make it, that we are going to conquer,” he sings according to the translation provided by his PR firm. “We are Portugal. A single voice and heart!”

It shouldn’t come as too big a surprise that Shawn jumped at the chance given his admiration for a certain football superstar. “I follow Portugal and England because of my parents, who are from the two countries,” the 19-year-old explains. “In the World Cup I’m always cheering for Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo, who is my favorite player and probably one of my biggest inspirations.” The hitmaker has also released a new video to accompany the song and it will certainly get you in the mood for the World Cup.
