Kelly Clarkson possesses one of the most versatile voices in music. The original American Idol belts with the best of them on pop/rock productions like breakout hit “Since U Been Gone.” She has mastered the art of emoting on high-octane ballads like “Piece By Piece.” Most recently, she embraced her soulful side on her latest LP, Meaning Of Life. Today (June 15), she highlights her country chops by linking up with country duo Dan + Shay on their new single “Keeping Score.” Things are looking very good for the pair as they prepare to unleash their third LP next week. After breaking into the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Tequila,” their latest collaboration offers another opportunity for crossover success.

Over a stripped back production, the trio encourage listeners to appreciate every moment of life. “Someday we’re gonna blink twice, say it happens like that,” Dan and Shay announce on the first verse. Kelly joins them for some lush harmonies on the chorus and shares responsibilities on the remaining verses. “I know I’m only human. Don’t know how many sunsets I got left, and I don’t wanna ruin this moment by wondering what comes next,” they evocatively sing over a swelling production. Speaking directly to a loved one, they voice their goals for life. “I just want to love you like it’s all I’m living for. Hold you close, enjoy you more and spend a little less time keeping score.”

Boasting a powerful message, “Keeping Score” could easily enjoy a run on the charts. Kelly’s voice adds a nice dimension to the release, and their combined star power should guarantee them plenty of success. The “Love So Soft” superstar has crossed over into country multiple times in the past. But this is one of her sweetest offerings in recent memory. Give the track a spin below!
