Reactions To XXXTentacion's Murder
The music world reacts to the death of 20-year-old rapper XXXTentacion.

When a musician or artist dies, fans naturally revisit their back catalogue as part of the grieving process. That also applies to XXXTentacion, who was murdered in a drive-by shooting in Miami, Florida yesterday (June 18). Since news of the 20-year-old’s death hit the internet, the demand for his music increased exponentially. For starters, the controversial rapper’s biggest hit, “SAD!,” is currently sitting at number one on iTunes ahead of Beyoncé and JAY-Z’s much-hyped “APESHIT.” Not only that, but he has four other songs in the top 10.

The popularity of “SAD!” extends well beyond iTunes. According to Spotify, the emo-rap anthem was the second-most played song in the United States in the last 24 hours with 1.4 million streams. It is even more popular on YouTube. The audio clip of “SAD!” (there was no video) racked up 11.7 million views in the last 24 hours. With numbers like those, don’t be surprised if XXXTentacion lands a posthumous number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100. His albums 17 and ? are also top 10 on iTunes.
