Imagine Dragons Frontman Dan Reynolds Calls For Unity On “Skipping Stone”

Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds delivers a call for unity on his earnest single, “Skipping Stone.” The 30-year-old is an outspoken ally of the LGBTQ+ community and advocates for equality and acceptance. “Celebrate our diversity. embrace our LGBTQ youth,” he wrote in a tweet last month. “To ‘accept’ does not simply mean to ‘love’ – it means you give true validity and fully embrace and support diverse sexual orientations and do not see ones sexuality as ‘incorrect’ or ‘sinful’. love is an empty word otherwise.” Next week the Mormon rock star will release a documentary called Believer via HBO. In it, he opens up about his goals to bridge the divide between the faith and its gay members. Today (June 22), he unveiled the first of two original tracks he contributed to the project’s soundtrack.

Teaming up with iconic producer Hans Zimmer, the stripped-back release is a true standout. Over a sparse production, Dan sings about his desire to find a sense of home and true belonging. “I keep skipping stones. Hoping for a change, but things just stay the same. I keep walking roads looking for a home that I can call my own,” he croons on the chorus. The track builds up to a spoken segment in the middle, which features a rallying tribute to love. “Love is not a product of reasonings and statistics. It just comes,” he announces. “When you fish for love bait with your heart and not your brain.” Boasting a simple production but powerful message, “Skipping Stone” is a beautiful offering and a testament to the “Next To Me” crooner’s dedication.
