The Wanted Go On Hiatus
After getting together in 2009, The Wanted is taking a well-deserved break.

The Wanted has been on (indefinite) hiatus for four years, but Max George didn’t want to rush out a solo single. The hot, bald-headed one from the group took his time, dabbling in acting and other endeavors, but he finally returns to the music scene today (July 3) with “Barcelona” — a breezy bop about a holiday romance. “How are we gonna make it till the summer? How are we gonna hold on to the love we found?” Max muses on the chorus. “Think about that beach in Barcelona, call me crazy but I need you now.”

Produced by Steve Mac (Ed Sheeran’s “Shape Of You” and Anne-Marie’s “2002”), “Barcelona” is something of an earworm and establishes the 29-year-old as a viable alternate to the various 1D and The Wanted members trying to carve out solo careers. “I’ve worked with a lot of amazing writers, some from The Wanted days, and I feel like I’ve settled in to a sound,” Max explains. “It’s not a million miles away from what I’ve done before, but it’s fresher and sharper, sometimes more stripped back, maybe more experimental.”
