Country-Disco Diva: Kacey Musgraves’ Dazzling “High Horse” Video

Country princess Kacey Musgraves takes it back to the ’70s in her retro “High Horse” video. The 29-year-old has been flying high since dropping her critically acclaimed The Golden Hour earlier this year. She soared to the top of Billboard’s Country chart, landed within the top 5 on the Billboard 200 and has netted three Top 40 singles on the Hot Country chart. Her current single has some serious crossover appeal. The tongue-in-cheek bop is a disco-infused anthem with countrified lyrics about an egomaniac. “So why don’t you giddy up, giddy up. And ride straight out of this town, you and your high horse,” she coos over a twinkling production.

All things considered, it is easy to imagine the track finding some love on the Hot 100, and her new video is likely to give her a boost. In the Hannah Lux Davis-directed release, the siren goes from the workplace to a karaoke bar. Opening in a dated office, Kacey is annoyed by her co-workers and enters a fantasy world to pass the time. Like any country diva, she gets out her lasso, ties up her annoyances and heads to a bar where she performs onstage. There are plenty of costume changes and some choreography, and of course she rides off into the evening on a horse.

The quirky release could easily go viral and help “High Horse” on the charts. It would be a welcome hit for Kacey as she gears up to hit the road on her Oh What A World Tour. She’s currently finishing up a string of shows with Harry Styles and will begin her headlining show this fall. Give the new video a spin up top!
