MØ Reunites With Diplo On “Sun In Our Eyes,” Announces ‘Forever Neverland’
MØ and Diplo comprise one of pop’s perfect pairs. Like Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull or Shakira and Maluma, the duo continue to find each other on a series of brilliant collaborations. 2015’s “Lean On” remains their most successful outing, but they have linked up on a multitude of tracks since then. Most recently they dropped the surprisingly romantic “Stay Open,” and today (July 12) they are back at it. The Danish singer reunites with the super producer on “Sun In Our Eyes.” In a press release, she revealed that the single is about “imaginary love and living in a bubble.” More importantly, it is evidence that the long-time collaborators get better every time they hit the studio.
“One of the many reasons I love working with him [Diplo] is because I always feel like it’s a free and creative process and I always like the end product,” she said. “We both loved ‘Sun In Our Eyes’ from the beginning and what makes it special to me is that it’s a combination of the two ingredients I’m always craving in music: uplifting and melancholy vibes.” Both moods come through on the soaring production. “I feel the sunlight on my head, the scent of summer in my bed,” she sings on the opening lines. Moving into the chorus, MØ expresses her desire to hold onto the temporary feelings, to “just ride that wave until we higher than life with the sun in our eyes.”
“Sun In Our Eyes” serves as the lead single to MØ’s forthcoming album, Forever Neverland. Thematically, the lead single will inform the rest of the LP, which is set to drop October 19. It will be her first LP since 2014’s No Mythologies To Follow and follows last year’s When I Was Young EP. In an interview at Coachella, she explained that last year’s project helped bridge the gap between projects and opened up about how important the new LP was to her. “I feel like it’s been so long, you know, like all these collaborations and singles and I was just like, ‘I need to put out this little thing.’ A little collection of songs before I could put my mind into the actual album,” she said.
